- At this time, the species of wood I use for muddlers include: Bocote, Goncalo Alves (Tiger Wood), Argentine Osage Orange, Chechen (Caribbean Rosewood), Bolivian Rosewood and Bloodwood. I use Mesquite (such an interesting wood) as I find it for sale.
- Each muddler shape is unique - made by hand without the use of duplicating tools. The design has evolved to combine functionality with curves that highlight the beauty of the wood. Each muddler has my signature brand burned into the handle end before the oil finish is applied.
- Each specific wood type contains a range of color and grain pattern. If you want to see what your exact muddler looks like, contact me by e-mail ([email protected]) and I will send you a picture of specific muddlers from which to choose.
- The price for each muddler varies somewhat according to changing wood cost but usually $70 with free shipping.
- To purchase a muddler, let me know what you want via email. I am now accepting Venmo or a check as a means of payment. My email address is [email protected] and phone, 715-499-3064
*( JANKA scale) The Janka scale is an international hardness rating measure developed in 1906 and standardized by the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) in 1927. A hardness reading of, say 2200, means it takes 2200 lbs of pressure to sink a marble size stainless steel ball to half its circumference into the wood. All woods we use have a hardness rating of over 2000. There are no woods native to North America that are that hard - hickory and pecan for example, are 1820 on the Janka scale. Mesquite is an exception.)

Bocote Muddler
Bocote is not only exceptionally beautiful but very hard (2200 on the Janka scale - harder than Hickory or Hard Maple) and quite dense. The grain varies from the straight to wildly curved throughout it’s golden brown to tan color. Dark curved streaks of black accent the wood. It polishes well. It is used in such things as pool cues and knife handles. It grows throughout Mexico and also in West Indies.

Bloodwood muddler
Bloodwood (Cardinal Wood) can be polished to a gorgeous deep red finish. The wood we use is bright red accented at times with variegated streaks of pale yellow. The grain is very fine adding to its beauty as well as its ability to stand up to hard use. It is very hard (2900 on Janka scale) - meaning it takes almost 3000 lbs of pressure to push a marble sized steel ball to half way its diameter. It is also very dense. It grows throughout much of tropical South America.

Osage Orange (Argentine)
The Argentine Osage Orange muddler in the picture is second from the right. It is a beautiful honey color with swirls of amber and bright yellow. It is very hard (2400 on Janka scale) and is quite different than the common variety that is planted in the U.S. as hedges and fences. The vibrant colors hold up well over time in part due to the oil finish we apply.
